This document, VMware Horizon Client for Mac User Guide, explains how to use VMware Horizon® Client™ for Mac to connect to and use remote desktops and published applications.

Horizon Client communicates with a server, which acts as a broker between the client device and remote desktops and published applications. You enter credentials into Horizon Client, the server authenticates your credentials, and then the server finds the remote desktops and published applications that you are entitled to use.

This document assumes that Horizon Client for Mac is already installed and configured on your Mac. For information about installing and configuring Horizon Client for Mac, see the VMware Horizon Client for Mac Installation and Setup Guide document.

Please follow the below instructions to install the VMWare Horizon Client for Mac.

    1. Download the VMWare Horizon Client installer For Mac OS 10.12 – 10.15 by clicking here.
      Mac OS versions older than 10.12 are not supported.
    2. Double click on the VMware Horizon Client.dmg file to begin the install.
    3. Click “Agree” in the user license agreement window that appears.
    4. When the VMWare Horizon Client window appears, drag the “VMWare Horizon Client icon to the Applications folder.
    5. The first time you launch the VMWare Horizon Client, you may see a security popup asking if you want to open the file. Click the “Open” button.
    6. Follow these linked instructions to log in to VDI with 2-Step Verification (2SV).

VDI requires a modern laptop, PC, or tablet.
In general most laptops that are less than 4 years old will run the VDI client without an issue. More detailed laptop requirements can be found in our student guide.
